March 9, 2021 Tuesday of the 3rd Week in Lent-B

Daniel 3:25, 34-43

Psalm 25

Matthew 18:21-35

“Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?”  Mt. 18:33

“Do not let us be put to shame, but deal with us in your kindness and great mercy.” Dan 3:42

Lord, today in your story you point out the obvious. You offer us unlimited, unconditional, undeserved mercy and forgiveness. Such kindness and love wipes away our debts, our sins. When we fall back into sin you forgive again, and again and again. How on earth can this merciful gift not change our hearts?  How can we not forgive our brothers and sisters as you have forgiven us?  My sins cost you your life on the cross. My debt has been paid.  What better way is there to live that forgiveness than to extend it to others?  Their debts to me are small compared to those I owe you. Lord, show me this Lent who you want me to forgive especially that person who doesn’t seek my forgiveness. Show me how to extend to those who have hurt me the same pity and compassion I have received from you. Soften my heart to follow you in a trusting and a humble spirit.  Amen.
