February 22, 2021 Monday of the 1st Week in Lent-B THE CHAIR OF ST. PETER THE APOSTLE

1 Peter 5:1-4

Psalm 23

Matthew 16:13-19

Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ the Son of the living God.”  Mt. 16:16

Lord, this may have been Peter’s finest moment. He was a hard-working, simple man with little theological formation. Yet, he saw in you what others couldn’t see. You had entered his heart and his mind. Your Father saw to it that Peter would possess the truth. You saw such great potential in this rugged man that despite his later faults and doubts he would have your authority and would lead your infant flock into the new pasture of your kingdom. Lord, I pray I can be open to the revealed truth of your Church. I pray for Pope Francis, Peter’s successor, that he may be faithful to his mission to teach, lead and govern the pilgrim Church. Thank you so much, dear Jesus, for the witness of the saintly Popes throughout the ages. I ask that your will grace your Church with all it needs to evangelize your children throughout the world. We cannot succeed without you.  Dear Jesus, I believe you are always preparing me for greater and more wonderful experiences of your love. When I am ready, I trust in your grace to help me to get it right like Peter did.  Amen
