Jesus…drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers…John 2:15

Lord, on this day we are reminded that, we the people, are the Church of God. While you call our attention to the oldest basilica in Christianity which has been burned and destroyed several times and rebuilt we, your church, have withstood the many centuries and remain your holy people on earth. St. Paul reminds us too that we are your temple and that the Spirit of God dwells in us. You cleansed the temple because of the unclean animal sacrifices and the cheating that was going on there did not honor God.  In addition, you replaced the temple as the center of our relationship with God. That’s why St. Paul says that you are the foundation upon which everything is built. Lord, every person, place and building can be holy if we treat them as giving you honor and glory.  Thank you Jesus for making us your body, your building on earth. May we always give you glory and praise that stones and bricks cannot. Please continue to guard and protect your church because we sometimes fail to live up to our cause. Give us hope that we can rebuild your church on the foundation you have given us.  Amen.
