Philippians 1:18-26

Psalm 42

Luke 14:1, 7-11

…the people there were observing him carefully.  Lk. 14:1

Lord, thank you for these wonderful parables and stories you told to help us understand what our Father wants for us. You drew people’s attention wherever you went. People made you the center of attention for good and for evil reasons. Your actions were meant to glorify your Father but many times those same actions aroused anger and resentment. What a hostile place that was for you! I find myself looking for the faults and failings of other people too. In some way it seems if I can spot weakness or bad character in someone else I can compare myself with them and rise above them. You’d rather I look for good in my brothers and sisters. You’d rather I look and celebrate the ways you shine forth and live in them. Lord, you teach us that humility will be rewarded. Humility is knowing who God is and who I am, his creation made in his image. It’s living as if all I am and ever will be is because you are in me. Help me today to recognize you in myself and others and to just let all the other stuff go.  Amen.
