2 Kings 24:8-17

Psalm 79

Matthew 7:21-29

Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.  Mt. 7:24

Jesus Lord, you compare our spiritual life to a house. We have construction codes to ensure that our houses are built strong and firm. We must use the right materials in the building of our homes or risk fire or problems. If we don’t constantly maintain our homes they will fall into disrepair and collapse. You tell us that words are not enough to build a spiritual life acceptable to the Father. We can look good on the outside but have a foundation not built on rock. Sand is a poor foundation because when a hurricane strikes our house will be washed away.  Lord, the essential ingredient in any good and strong spiritual foundation is our relationship with God.  Lord, I want to use the right materials to build my house:  the sacraments, prayer, participating in the life of the Church, doing charitable deeds to really help my brothers and sisters. Teaching my children the fundamentals of Catholic life is important. Lord, I want you to look deeply into my heart and see my love for you. I want to discern the will of the Father as I live out my vocation as parent, friend and child of God.  Amen
