June 1, 2020 BLESSED VIRGIN MARY MOTHER OF THE CHURCH–A

Genesis:3:9-15,20

Psalm 87

John 19:25-34

The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living.  Gen. 3:20

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman behold your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother.”  John 19:26-27

Lord, even in your excruciating agony on the cross you were concerned for your mother and the disciples. It had to break your heart to see your mother Mary watch her only son die such a painful death.  She was completely dedicated to you throughout your life. Her “Yes” to the angel and her obedience to God made her the “new Eve” mother of all Christians and of the church. The first Eve was mother of all the living. Mary the second Eve became the mother of the church and our intercessor with you in heaven. Dear Jesus, thank you so much for giving me such a mother to look after me and my spiritual and physical needs. Mary’s role added a feminine dimension to the life and ministry of your infant church. It also reminds us that, without her willing consent to bear the Son of God, there would be no reason for a church at all. I pray every day to this great lady because she loves me and wants me and my family to join her and you in heaven. On this day may her prayers for us help us to be more faithful and holy members of the Body of your Body the church.  Amen  Alleluia
