Acts of the Apostles: 2, 14, 22-33

Psalm 16

St. Peter 1:17-21

Luke 24:13-35

I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.  Ps. 16:8

We were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel… Lk. 24:21

Lord, the two travelers on the road to Emmaus didn’t recognize you as you walked with them. The story says they were disappointed at the news of your death but not joyous at the news of your resurrection. They were downcast and in sorrow.  Many people today, even in the Easter season, are downcast and in sorrow over the terrible virus which is sweeping the world. This sorrow comes from our failure to accept in faith the words of King David in his very special Psalm at today’s Mass (V.8).  The two travelers and all of us can trust in your protection and care because you are at our right hand no matter what happens. You are there in the ICU, hospital room, even in the long hours of waiting at home or for our test to come back positive or negative. He’s always at our right hand no matter how grim the trouble even death from the virus. Lord, give us the grace to always be confident in your love and care for us. When we do that our hopes will always be rewarded and we will recognize you in the breaking of the bread. Nourish us always with your body and blood even when our churches are closed we can make an act of spiritual communion.  Amen.  Alleluia
