“…and you yourself a sword will pierce…”  Luke 2:35

Lord, after the young Mary stepped out in faith and with the grace of courage said “Yes” to be your mother, you’d think her life would be easy and peaceful.  After all she gave up her own plans for yours and to be your mother.  Not at all!  Mary suffered right along with you.  Bad news came early on as Simeone foretold a life of sorrow.  It all began with a nighttime flight to Egypt to escape a mad king trying to destroy you.  Then every parent’s nightmare, losing you in Jerusalem for three days.  She watched as you were rejected and almost killed by the people of your hometown.  She met you on the way to your death as you drug your cross to Calvary.  She watched you take your last breath as she had seen you take your first one.  Finally, she watched as you were laid in your tomb.  She was never overwhelmed because of your grace and her faith in God and her love of you.  Lord, make me strong and patient as I am pierced by the sword of suffering.  Thank you for so awesome a mother.  Blessed Mother pray for us now and at the hour of death.  Amen.
