Acts 18:9-18
Psalm 47
John 16:20-23
“So, you also are now in anguish, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice…” John 16:22
Lord, your promise today is that our present anguish will turn into joy. We certainly would be happy to trade our anguish for joy–especially the joy that can’t be taken away from us. Your disciples were soon to see you suffer and die and that would be the cause of their anguish. Then you would appear to them, and they would rejoice. Lord, we all have times of suffering and torment. Fear can paralyze us to inaction. Despair can bring us so low we don’t want to live. The greater our pain the farther you seem to be from us. Lord Jesus, please show yourself to us in our misery. Give us the confidence to hope for healing and a return to joy. I believe in your promises. So, today I place all my grief and trouble in your merciful and powerful hands. I do not know how you will bring me to healing and to joy, but I believe you will. Mary, mother of our Savior, pray for us. Amen
