September 9, 2024, Monday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time-B ST. PETER CLAVER, PRIEST
1 Corinthians 5:1-8
Psalm 5
Luke 6:6-11
…is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil?” Lk.6:9
Lord, how is it that a good deed done for one person enrages others? How is it that your enemies were so blind to suffering they couldn’t see the mercy and power of God at work in their midst? It must have broken your heart to endure their anger and narrow-mindedness. How can ignoring human suffering be a pleasing sacrifice to God on the Lord’s Day? Your mercy and compassion doesn’t take a day off. Lord, never let me become so fixed on the externals of your law and become blind to the meaning. Give me a sensitivity to the suffering of those your place before me. May I be an instrument of your healing anytime it is needed. The Pharisees had low expectations of you because of the hardness of their hearts. Help me to have an open heart to your infinite and constant mercy for all people. Today I pray for the handicapped people who suffer limitations in their lives. And I pray for the handicapped of heart who cannot experience your love. Amen.
