2 Corinthians 4:7-15

Psalm 126

Matthew 20:20-28

For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus… 2 Cor. 4:11

“Can you drink of the chalice that I am going to drink?”  Mt. 20:22

Lord, parents want their children to be successful in life and so make many sacrifices for their education and advancement.  James’ mother boldly came to you to ensure her son would have a high place in your kingdom.  He eventually achieved that high place but not in the way she imagined.   He became great because after receiving the Holy Spirit he became a servant.  He gave everything up for you, even his life.  You clarified what greatness is in your kingdom.  It is in being the servant of others and of you.  To be a true servant you tell us we must “die” to self, carry our cross and drink from the same cup as you did.  Lord, St. Paul tells us that “everything indeed is for” us.  I am receiving all the grace I need to be a good, humble and holy servant in your kingdom.   May your grace lead me to give and not count the cost.  May I think first of my family, community, parish and neighbors and not myself.   May my actions give you glory and one day make me “great” in your kingdom.  St. James, pray for us.  Amen.
