“Blessed are you…” Matthew 5:11
Lord, I know your words are truth and you would never lead me astray. But these words can be hard to see the logic in. You tell me that the poor in spirit, the mourning and the meek are blessed. You say happiness comes to the merciful, the peacemakers and the persecuted. You know the human heart so well and lived our experiences of suffering and death. But your view collides with the world’s view. Your happiness is not the world’s happiness. Lord, my faith tells me your happiness is in seeing me clean of heart by avoiding those sins I am drawn to. You and I can share these values of mercy, peacefulness, and meekness to both be happy. Lord, enlighten my eyes of faith today to see how these values lead to happiness in your kingdom. Satisfy my thirst for righteousness. Extend to me and those I love your unconditional mercy. When I am truly happy, I’m living the kingdom life. Thank you for setting me straight and for making my heart like yours. I feel happier already! Amen.
