Genesis 17:3-9

Psalm 105

John 8:51-59

“My covenant with you is this:  you are to become the father of a host of nations.”  Genesis 17:4

“Amen, Amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”  John 8:51

Lord, you are a God of surprising promises.  I’ll bet Abraham was surprised that he was going to father a child at age 99.  The Jews must have been surprised that eternal life awaits those who believed in you.  Abraham believed and trusted in your unexpected promise.  The Jews tried to stone you.  You make these promises to me even today.  Your ways are not my ways.  To see your plan through for my life and the salvation of the world you lead, guide and bless in new and exciting ways.  Along the way you sometimes allow hardship and pain and sometimes joy and happiness.  Whenever necessary you offer me an opportunity to change my course and alter my plans to achieve your ends.  That change of course can be hard.  Lord, I trust you have a grand and wonderful plan for me.  I believe that if I place all my hopes and dreams in your powerful and loving hands all will turn out all OK.  I look forward to how you will surprise me today!  Amen.
