Romans 8:12-17
Psalm 68
Luke 13:10-17
“Woman, you are set free of your infirmity.” Lk. 13:12
Lord, how you blessed this long-suffering woman by setting her free of a tremendous burden. In your compassion you saw a faithful child of our loving Father and your immediate response was to heal her on the spot. You knew the law and could have told her, “woman, come back tomorrow and I will heal you then.” The hypocrites in the crowd would have been happy with that. But you showed them that the kingdom of God doesn’t work that way. What better day to set someone free of Satan’s bondage than on the Sabbath, a day dedicated to your Resurrection? For the first time in eighteen years, she could look someone in the eye. The first face she saw was yours. Lord, Jesus, healer of mind and body, set me free of what burdens me. I can lack compassion for the suffering around me. I can be legalistic and impose burdens on others. I can sometimes forget they are children of our Father in heaven. You know better than I what weighs me down. I thank you for hearing my prayer. Amen.
