Psalm 96
Luke 2:22-35
The man was righteous and devout…and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Lk. 2:25
Lord, your faithful servant Simeon waited patiently for you to come to the temple. How many years had he looked for you? Because he was “righteous and devote” he could see what others could not. Of all the babies in the temple that day, he spotted you right off. Why did he expect the Messiah to come as a helpless baby? He was listening to the Holy Spirit and was able to make a prophecy about your future that would true. You blessed him by fulfilling his dream and answered his prayer to see the redemption come of Israel. This story shows the power of the Holy Spirit to reveal to me what is not visible with our natural eyes and minds. I have received the Holy Spirit at my Baptism and am so grateful for your gift. I beg you for the patience of Simeon to wait on your answer to my prayers until the proper time. I ask for the eyes of faith to see how you are working in my everyday routine. May your Holy Spirit enlighten my faith to know you when I see you. Amen.
