…Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man, was seeking to see who Jesus was, Lk. 19;2-3
Lord, you intended to pass through the town of Jericho until you saw the little man in the tree. What prompted you to stop and invite yourself into this notorious sinner’s home? We are told he was trying to see who you were. His heart was already changing even before you spoke to him. His actions later speak of how you radically changed his character and instilled in him a generous faith which brought his house salvation. I love stories of repentance and redemption. You touched him so deeply that he was extravagant in repayment of his ill-gotten wealth. Lord, I see that no one is beyond your power to heal, transform and bless with new life. What an example of determination of this man since he did not let his shortness be an obstacle to seeing you. Lord, what obstacles do I let come between you and me? Do I complain I have no time to pray? Do I let pleasure or selfishness interfere with being your disciple? Lord, I love to have you come to me in Holy Communion. You are welcome to come home and to stay with me anytime. Amen.
