Psalm 111
Luke 10:25-37
“But a Samaritan traveler…was moved with compassion at the sight.” Luke 10:33
Lord, I lie beaten, wounded and bleeding by the side of the road. I cannot get up on my own. I could die right here. But one who I least expect comes to my rescue. He is the one who I have offended and have dishonored. I do not deserve to be aided by someone so different from me. Lord, you emptied yourself of divine majesty and took on all the limitations of frail humanity. When you had every right to judge me, condemn me and pass by you stopped and gave all of yourself. You have picked me up from the mud, washed away my sinful ways and continue to nurse me back to life with the sacraments of your church. You have saved me from death. How can I thank you enough for what you have done for me? O yes, I can “go and do likewise.” Lord, give me compassion like yours. Take away any limits I want to put on my love. There are none on yours. With your grace I can be neighbor out of gratitude to you. Amen.
