“Pay attention to what I am telling you” Luke 9:44
Lord, you have our attention especially when you speak of our Father’s love, mercy and the joys and peace of heaven. We love to hear how glorious and beloved we are in the Father’s eyes. It’s when you speak of the cross that we aren’t so interested. When you tell us to love our enemies and pray for them, we say “not interested.” If you tell us to forgive those who don’t even ask for forgiveness we say, “why?” Going the extra mile, dying to self, bearing the cross with joy are ideas we shy away from. We’d much rather hear stories of great miracles than stories about the judgement. Lord, keep me from putting off my attention to your word because the day of judgement is coming. May I be open to everything you want me to hear. Release me from the fear which holds me back from living the abundant life you came to give me in all its forms. Keep my heart free to love like you and to not run from the cross. Speak, Lord, your servant is listening. Amen
