1 Corinthians 11:17-26, 33
Psalm 40
Luke 7:1-10
“This is my Body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Cor. 11:24
“Lord, do not trouble yourself for I am not worthy…” Luke 7:6
Lord, worldly status and position can lead us to a sense of entitlement. We can form an attitude that because of our past accomplishments or elevated place in life that we deserve more from you. The Centurion was a big deal in a small town, and he had great influence as the commander of a hundred Roman troops. He, however, was given a great faith in God. He knew where all the authority and good in his life came from and was aware of his place in God’s Kingdom. He addressed you as “Lord” before many others did. His words are on our lips at every Mass just before we receive you in Holy Communion. Like the Centurion, I cannot claim any right to your goodness, blessings or forgiveness. However, I will follow your command and celebrate the Sacrament of your Body and Blood every chance I have. I fall on my knees and beg for mercy, grace and favor. I am not worthy for you to come to me either, but you do it anyway. Thank you, Lord, for overlooking my unworthiness and for entering my home. Amen.
