Psalm 90
Philemon 9-10, 12-17
Luke 14:1, 25-33
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart. Ps. 90:12
“…calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion?” Luke 14:28
Lord, you give us very practical advice if we want to build something or start a large project. It just makes sense to be confident the resources needed are available for the job. But when it comes to following you, the calculation is different. We must make a willful choice to put you first in our lives knowing we can’t do anything without your help. Putting you first is a daily effort that relies on your grace for success. None of us can be faithful disciples without your help. Our crosses are too heavy to carry alone. You provide more than enough for us to follow you. But to make use of your word to inspire and your grace to equip me for the tasks ahead I must place you at the top of my priority stack. Nothing, no person, no pleasure, no reward can be allowed to come between you and me. Lord, you understand this can be hard for me and I’m not always ready or willing to do what you call me to. Lord, help me please to have wisdom of heart. Amen.
