August 29, 2022 Monday of the 22nd week in Ordinary Time-C THE PASSION OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

Jeremiah 1:17-19

Psalm 71

Mark 6:17-29

For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, a pillar of iron, a wall of brass… Jer. 1:18

In you, O Lord I take refuge; let me never be put to shame.  Ps. 71: 1

Lord, I have to believe your servant St. John prayed this psalm often. You heard him and made him a “pillar of iron, a wall of brass…” I look to heaven and praise you for all you have done for me. You have always been close, always guiding, protecting and leading me to yourself. Even at those times of distress when I could not see you, you were close by. How can I ever praise and thank you enough for your constant attention to my needs, all the prayers answered, all the sins forgiven. You have at every moment known what’s best for me. Sometimes what was best was to let me struggle, sometimes it was to say “no”, sometimes it was an instant blessing. How can the creator of the universe be so involved and be so personal with me? Lord, today I look for ever more marvelous deeds, for you aren’t finished with me.  Show yourself in a powerful way in my challenges and joys. I will sing a song of gratitude every day of my life.  St. John the Baptist, pray for me.  Amen
