When he arrived in Antioch and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all. Acts. 11:23
“Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” Mt. 10:8
Lord, today you call to mind the priesthood that many are called to with the example of one of your earliest and most productive Apostles: St. Barnabas. You confer on all the baptized the role of priest, prophet and king. We do our best to live out our calling as St. Barnabas did. Nothing could be a better recommendation than “he was a good man, filled with Holy Spirit and faith.” Apparently, he was the right man for the right time because he delivered much needed encouragement to the new Catholics in Antioch. Faithful disciples have received much grace without cost and without cost they give and serve your people. Yet Paul and Barnabas were just ordinary men with extraordinary zeal for you. They made a huge contribution to the early church. I’m just an ordinary person too but with your grace I can make contributions as well. I can make a difference in my time and place that maybe no one else can. Lord, please take what I have to offer and build on it so that your kingdom will grow on earth. St. Barnabas pray for us. Amen.
