Psalm 27
Matthew 5:27-32
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. 1 Kings 19:12
Wait for the Lord with courage; be stouthearted and wait for the Lord. Ps. 27:14
Lord, you come to us in so many ways. You can be dramatic and powerful, or you can be in a tiny whispering sound. Elijah was looking for you in the earthquake, windstorm and fire. But only when things became quiet, and Elijah was patient did he hear you clearly. Every Jew knew the Commandments and understood the need to follow them. But you teach us today that there is more to living the abundant life you came to give us than rote obedience. You point out that we must turn away from the temptations to sin. Looking at another person with lust can lead to adultery. There are many habits that we form that lure us into sin and these habits are deadly. There are seemingly harmless words, actions and thoughts that can be the starting point for sin. I believe you will speak to me in the silence, and you will supply all the grace I require to live the life you died to give me. Remove from me what invites me to sin and distracts me from your “tiny whispers.” I want to experience the good you want to accomplish in my life. Amen.
