2 Kings 2:6-14

Psalm 31

Mathew 6:1-6, 16-18

“…do not be like the hypocrites… Mt. 6:5

The false religious actions of hypocrites do not impress you. You warned your followers not to be like them in giving alms, in fasting, prayer or good deeds. Most of us can spot a phony a mile away. A self-serving person may sometimes fool us whether in politics, the business world or even among family and friends. Our true motives can be disguised for our own purposes.  When we try to impress others with our holiness or goodness we miss the mark and do not glorify our Father. Lord, I turn to you in faith to purify my motives in how I relate to you. Guide my heart and my innermost desires to please you first and always. Look into my innermost being and connect with me so I can live for you, first and foremost. I pray that when I serve you in whatever way you call me it will be out of love and pure desire to glorify you and gain my heavenly reward. Remove from me any selfish motives or self serving when they are obstacles to growing in faith and complete trust in you, Lord.  I know I cannot hide anything from you, Jesus. May your light and your love shine within me today.  Amen.
