August 11, Saturday of the 18th Week in Ordinary Time-B ST CLARE, VIRGIN
Habakkuk 1:12-2:4
Psalm 9
Matthew 17:14-20
“… if you have faith the size of a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you. “ Mt. 17:20
Lord, your words today give me hope. If mustard seed-sized faith can move mountains then I can handle the smaller obstacles in my life. If all I need to get started is a little faith, I am encouraged about facing my difficulties. I know you will hear my prayer to strengthen my faith. So many times I read in the gospels how you recognized the faith of those you cured. Look for the faith in my heart and heal me of what afflicts me. I can be a stubborn and hard headed disciple, Lord, so be patient with me even when my weak faith is not enough. Your disciples walked with you every day and saw all your miracles yet their faith was weak. What chance do I have then? I will use what I have: your word, your sacraments and your truth as taught by your church to guide me to greater faith. May I seek out good, holy and faith-filled people to show me what firm and unwavering faith looks like. In the end dear Jesus, I turn to you and trust you will grant me all the faith I need to move the mountains in my life. Amen.
