2 Kings 11:1-4, 9-18, 20
Psalm 132
Matthew 6:19-23
“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Mt. 6:21
Lord, we live in a throw-away culture. We don’t repair things anymore just toss them out and get new. Even if our cars and TVs are more reliable and work longer, they still will eventually fail, be tossed out and replaced. You urge us to seek what lasts forever. You turn our attention to the Gospel values that light our path to heaven. These include faithfulness in marriage, honesty, devotion to your word, commitment to the vulnerable and poor among us, and respecting the dignity of human life. Let me examine my priorities today, Lord, and where these pursuits are among them. What do I treasure the most? What is in my heart? Is it light or darkness? For most it’s probably a mixture of each. Dear Jesus, help me to seek what pleases you. Guide me to use the resources you’ve blessed me with to build up your kingdom within myself and in my family and community. Strengthen the relationships I have with those you’ve given me. Most of all keep my heart free of darkness and lead me to you with your light. Amen.
