June 14, 2020 THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)–A

Deuteronomy: 8:2-3, 14-16

Psalm 147

1 Corinthians: 10:16-17

John 6: 52-58

Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many are one body… 1 Cor. 10:17

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”  John 6:56

Lord, we hunger for many things other than food. We hunger for money, power, security, acceptance and love. We work hard to satisfy these hungers. There is a hunger and emptiness of our souls that we can neglect or even deny. Soul hunger can’t be filled with wealth or a steak dinner. Our soul hunger can only be fed by you. You gave yourself for us totally on the cross. You also give us yourself in the Mass in the gift of Eucharist, the sacrament of life. Receiving you, Lord, in Holy Communion is nourishment for our spirits and the closest we can be to you until we get to heaven.  It’s also the closest you will be to us, your beloved children.  I guess in a way you hunger to be near us too. As we walk in the desert of life, Lord, fill us with an overflowing abundance of your bread from heaven. Lord, as I receive you today, remain with me the entire week. Build up my faith in the reality of the Eucharist and how it unites us who receive it into one body.  Let me never take it for granted or try to live without you as the food that heals, forgives and satisfies.  Amen.
