Hosea 10:1-3, 7-8, 12
Psalm 105
Matthew 10:1-7
“Sow for yourselves justice…” Hosea 10:12
Lord, your holy prophet urges the people to open their hearts to you. They had “heart disease” because they had become hard-hearted- “every man for himself”. The society had forgotten the poor, disabled and the immigrant. Lord, I think we need to listen to your prophet today. “Looking out for number one” is not your way. The message is clear: you desire that we care for one another. You want us to look out for our brothers and sisters. You want us to welcome the stranger and seek to live peacefully with those who are different than we are. Justice means to look for ways to increase the opportunities for others to prosper and to go as far as their work and talents can take them. It starts with me. Lord, I seek a heart that is open and eager for justice and good relations with all my neighbors. This is a time of decision in our country. What kind of a nation do we want to be? How about a nation of free people, united and generous and strong, always seeking your face. Amen.
