September 13, 2023, Wednesday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time-A ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM, BISHOP, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH
Colossians 3:1-11
Psalm 145
Luke 6:20-26
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. Colossians 3:2
Lord, your word today encourages us to focus on our ultimate goal, eternal union with you in heaven. All else is secondary-all else is temporary and perishable. Much of what we encounter in our thoughts and activities is very good and moves us toward our goal, but there is also much distraction that can throw us off course. A runner never won a race by not focusing on the finish line. These are the practices, habits, and material possessions that St. Paul told the Colossians to bury and leave behind. What I ask you, Lord, today is for your help to keep my eyes on the prize. The grace to not be preoccupied by the lures of this life which hinder my path to you. You have placed so many good people and opportunities in my path that help me grow in the Spirit-for all these I thank you. May I stay faithful to you, and your word. May I continue to receive the grace of the sacraments of your Church. Let me reject anything that would keep me from the goal that is you. St. John Chrysostom, pray for us. Amen.
