Genesis 13:2, 5-18
Psalm 15
Matthew 7:6, 12-14
“Let there be no strife between you and me…” Genesis 13:8
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you…” Matthew 7:12
Lord, I recall a Peanuts strip that showed Charlie Brown so bundled up with many layers of winter clothes he couldn’t fit through the doorway to go out to play on a cold, wintry day. Today you tell of the narrow gate that leads to heaven. The gate is narrow to induce us to lay down those things that don’t belong in heaven. Those burdens that prevent us from living the abundant life you offer. Lord, show me what I cling to that keeps me from passing through the door to you. Maybe I can be more forgiving to someone or prevent strife out of a relationship. Maybe giving up my time and energy for someone or some purpose other than myself. It means to offer compassion and patience instead of anger or resentment. It means to not judge others and to look for opportunities to share the blessings you have given me. Dear Jesus, help me today to let go of whatever keeps me from passing through the narrow gate to you. Amen.
