Matthew 10:37-42

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me…” Matthew 10:37

Lord, these words of yours surely caught the attention of those who heard them long ago.  You speak to us often about the cost of discipleship.  Obedience and respect to father and mother is one of your great commandments.  It a huge personal challenge for me to put God first when you say he comes even above our cherished and beloved mom, dad and family.  It’s an opportunity to reflect on my priorities at this point in life.  With so many relationships, activities and even distractions it’s a daily challenge to place love and fidelity to you first and foremost.  Lord, I have chosen to follow you in all ways.  Yet I have real relationships and responsibilities in this world.  Today, may I give you my full attention.  May I never let anything or any person take my mind and heart from you.  May I fulfill all my duties and obligations in ways that give you honor and glory.  I will seek first your kingdom and everything else will fall into place.  Amen.
