January 7, 2018 Sunday, THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Isaiah 60:1-6
Psalm 72
Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6
Matthew 2:1-12
They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Matthew 2:11
Lord, angels guided the humble shepherds to your crib. A star guided the foreign Magi to your manger. Simeon and Anna recognized you at the temple. All were moved to praise and were inspired to offer gifts to you. Lord, what praise can I offer you? What gifts can I bring to you? I do not have gold, frankincense or myrrh. What would please and honor you? I can only present to you what I have and that is my heart. I surrender to you, Lord, all I am. To be honest, that’s easier said than done. But it’s a choice I can make each day. I can’t do it on my own. Please, Jesus, hear my prayer this day to be open to your Spirit like the shepherds and Magi. Fill me with the grace needed to grow in faith and trust in you at all times. Help me to follow the star to you. By following the light of a star the Magi found the light of the world. They went home by another way, for no one who encounters you can go the same way again. Amen.
