Genesis 49:2, 8-10

Psalm 72

Matthew 1:1-17

…as long as the sun his name shall remain.  Ps. 72:17

…the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.  Mt. 1:1

Lord, we research our ancestry to discover our roots and learn about those who preceded us.  Sometimes we are pleased and proud of them but sometimes we aren’t so happy about our more notorious relations.  In your genealogy there are saints and sinners, heroes and villains, kings and shepherds.   There also is a faithful carpenter and a young virgin.  I am so inspired by how God’s plan of redemption was begun so long ago with Abraham and then King David and then our Blessed Mother.  Your coming was promised long ago and no evil king, idolater, murderer, thief or liar could prevent your incarnation.  Lord, may your plan continue in me.  Allow me and my family to carry on with your plan for the salvation of the world.  It’s good your plan is so rarely accomplished by the perfect.  Thank you for meeting us and using us just as we are.  Be my model of faithfulness so I can be in your presence now and forever.  Prepare me this Advent to be ready to receive you into my heart each day and when you come again.  Amen.
