“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Mt. 18:20
Lord, thank you for joining us when we get together in prayer. It’s so powerful to know that your presence guarantees that our prayers are heard. It is easy for many to offer prayer with like-minded friends or family. It’s comforting to be among those that are like us in age, culture or background. But, Lord, I think you’re inviting us to gather with those who are different than we are. Those we disagree with or those who may have hurt us in the past. Those of other races, cultures and even faith traditions. Your presence in those gatherings can bring unity, peace and understanding and forgiveness. We can be changed and our faith matured. Lord, may I look for opportunities to pray with at least spiritually those who are like the people you prayed with: sinners, tax collectors, the poor. Open my heart to the awesome possibilities of even praying with and for my enemies. Bring us together in your name, Jesus. Amen.
