…the Hellenists complained… because their widows were being neglected…  Acts 6:1

Lord, your early Church was growing fast.  Everyday numerous new disciples were coming into your infant community.  Your Apostles had their hands full ministering to the spiritual and material needs of the diverse groups in your young family.  Like all new movements there were growing pains.  But the Holy Spirit provided just what was needed, just at the right time.  The order of Deacon came into being and the Church moved on.  Lord, help me to trust and see how your Spirit is providing exactly what is needed at the right time today just like long ago.  We have needs to fill in our parishes and communities that must be met.  You call everyone to your table and that can be a challenge to us.  Deacons are called and ordained to serve but they are not the only ones.  Lord, give me the spirit of service so that I can do what’s needed in my parish family.  Come Holy Spirit and enkindle in me the fire of your love.  Amen.
