“You do not know what you are asking.”  Mk. 10:38

Lord, once again today you teach us the true nature of discipleship and the cost of following you. We come in prayer before you for so much. Out of our weak human nature we can ask for what we don’t understand. Your disciples, James and John, sought greatness and high places in your Kingdom. Your reply to them revealed that they didn’t yet “get it.” But when they were enlightened by the Holy Spirit they saw more clearly how service and suffering went hand in hand on the road to your Kingdom. Thanks to your love and patience you did not reject their request but grated it at the proper time. Today they indeed share the glory of your Kingdom. Lord, when you see by my prayers that I don’t “get it” be patient with me too. I trust in your plan for me. I’m confident that the timing of when you answer my prayers is always right on. May I empty myself so that your Spirit can fill me with wisdom and understanding so that I can pray rightly. I look forward to how you will bless me today.  Amen.
