Romans 1:1-7

Psalm 98

Luke 11:29-32

…called to belong to Jesus Christ; Rom. 1:6

“This generation…seeks a sign…”  Lk. 11:29

Lord, I sense in your voice today you had grown weary of being asked for signs of who you were. What more could you have done for the people? Multiplying the loaves, healing lepers, driving out demons and even raising the dead were not enough for them to believe in you as God’s Son. You wanted them to hear you as well as see your miracles because you used the examples of the preaching of Jonah and the Wisdom of Solomon. We can be a stubborn and stiff-necked people sometimes. You seek our surrender to you in faith. That means I must give up my pride and self-reliance and trust in you because I belong to you. Paul told the Romans he was your slave. Lord, I don’t need signs because I have the grace of the sacraments and your holy word to assure me that you are my Lord and my God. May I see your presence in my life with eyes of faith and listen to you speak to me with the ears of faith. Dear Jesus, continue to be patient with me as I yield to you as my merciful and loving master. Pope St. John, pray for us.  Amen.
