I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me.  Wis. 7:7

“Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mk. 10:17

Lord, the rich young man was seeking the path to heaven.  He was a good person who was leading a life of obedience to the commandments.  Yet, something told him that there was more to holiness than following the rules. You saw into this young man’s heart and loved him. You saw his dependence on his money, possessions and position. You saw earthly riches as obstacles for this man to give himself to you and to your other children. He wasn’t ready to “let go and let God.” I have the same question as the young man, Lord. What is my obstacle to eternal life?  What do you call me to let go of in order to be your faithful disciple? Is it my riches, or my pride or do I have a hardness of heart toward the needs of others?  Am I clutching on to a resentment or have I failed to forgive someone who has hurt me? Dear Jesus, please give me the spirit of wisdom to see what is holding me back from following you. May your grace lead me to let go of any attachment that blocks the abundant and eternal life you offer.  Amen.
