Lord, in everyday life we get out of something what we put into it. Hard work, focus and prayer produce good results that please you in any area of life. Success in any task is often preceded by sacrifice and a willingness to give of ourselves. Help me today to sow bountifully in my service of you. Strip from me laziness, pride, ego and selfishness. If I die to self, your word will live within me and produce an abundant harvest. I can’t go wrong by following the example of St. Lawrence whose generosity to the poor of his time sealed his fate. He truly produced abundant fruit by his courage to give his life for you. I pray for all those who are in danger of death from religious persecution. I pray for all deacons of our church who sow abundantly as they serve at the altar, the word and in charity. I also lift up all those men preparing to be deacons in your service. Bless them and their families as they discern your will for them. Keep me conscious and alert to the needs of the poor around us so I may respond generously. St. Lawrence, pray for me. Amen.
