Genesis 46:1-7, 28-30

Psalm 37

Matthew 10:16-23

The salvation of the just is from the Lord’ he is their refuge in time of distress.  Ps. 37:39

“…whoever endures to the end will be saved.”  Mt. 10:22

Lord, you commissioned your disciples to witness the good news that your kingdom is here and now. In today’s gospel you prepare them for the hardships of this work. This is a very difficult and unattractive job description.  Suffering, rejection, persecution and death are hardly good incentives for those who you call to this work. But the trials and difficulties that come with living the good news of your love are not what are important. The reward for our efforts is knowing we are doing your work and seeing the effects in the lives of those we touch. Being the good news to someone who is suffering separation from you is reward in itself. Lord, help me to hang in there and to stay faithful to you despite the struggles and difficulties I encounter along the way. Keep me from fear of failure and boost my confidence that you are at my side any time I shine the light of your love. Give me the right words and guide my actions so I can be your witness in the darkness of this world.  Amen
