Acts 20:28-38

Psalm 68

John 17:11b-19

“…your word is truth.”  John 17:17

“…I commend you to God and to that gracious word of his that can build you up.”

Acts 20:32

Lord, your super disciple Paul was saying goodbye to the faithful of Ephesus.  The scene was touching and passionate.  He gave them strong words of encouragement.  You did the same to your disciples at your Last Supper farewell.  They would not have you or the Ephesians, Paul, physically with them after this.  But Paul left behind something greater than his presence.  He left behind the truth of your word—the good news of the Gospel.  Your word was permanent and could be everywhere, unlike Paul who was restricted to a certain time and space.  The word of God is like a seed that when planted in the heart can build up and grow and strengthen everyone against evil.  Lord, I’ve never met Paul but what he left the Ephesians and many others still guides me today.  Your truth teaches me and encourages me and blesses me each day.  I am so grateful to holy St. Paul for his gift of your word.  May it flourish and build up my faith in you as the source of everything good.  Amen.
