Psalm 24
Luke 21:1-4
“…but she from her poverty has offered her whole livelihood.” Lk. 21:4
Lord, the poor widow may not have had much in terms of money or possessions. She was likely considered destitute. However, her complete trust in God was a richness far greater than that of the people who put in large donations. Her faith allowed her to surrender herself to God in ways the wealthy didn’t. They looked to their money and possessions for security. She looked to God for hers. Lord, it’s so easy for us to say we believe in you. She didn’t say it, she lived it. I don’t think I have the faith of this woman. I know all the good things and people I have in my life came from you. I thank you for everything and everyone you have given me. I just don’t seem to be able to wean myself from depending on my bank account, my house, car and everything else I hold dear. Most loans have to be paid back with interest. Can you, Lord, show me how I can return to you a greater measure of the time, talent and treasure you have loaned me? Jesus, I believe in you; help my unbelief. Amen.
