September 30, 2024, Monday of the 26th Week in Ordinary Time-B ST. JEROME, PRIEST, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH

Job 1:6-22

Psalm 17

Luke 9:46-50

“Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I go back again.”  Job 1:21

An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest.  Lk. 9:46

Lord, your disciples had come a long way from where they were when you called them from the fishing docks, tax collectors’ station and other places.  They thought of themselves as pretty important because you had invited them into your inner circle.  They thought themselves as in the “in crowd”.  Today your redefined greatness, importance and leadership.   Job was learning the same lesson in his day when he lost all the wealth and position which you had given him.   Lord, you urge us to look at ourselves and the world with God’s eyes and not our human eyes.  In your kingdom it is the servant who is important.  In your kingdom it is the one who knows that all good things come from God and the credit is His.  In your kingdom it is the humble ones who see themselves in right relationship with God.  Lord, help me today to let go of my ego and my agenda and look to you for the grace to be what you have chosen me to be.  St. Jerome pray for us.  Amen
