Amos 8:4-6, 9-12
Psalm 119
Matthew 9:9-13
He said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. Mt. 9:9
Lord, how did you prepare the disgraced sinner Matthew to respond by leaving his tax collecting post and become a disciple? What did you see in him that would contribute to the building up of your kingdom? In the eyes of the people Matthew would have been the last person on earth to be called into your inner circle. It’s amazing how you can touch the hearts of even the most hardened sinner. There is a place for everyone in your service even the most unlikely and unworthy. This story shows the power and effectiveness of your grace. Matthew was ready when you called. I want to be ready too. Lord, thank you for finding a place for me in your service. How will you surprise me today with your unexpected grace? Open my heart to all the possibilities of your plan for all of us, even those I least expect. Continue to form and guide me, your unworthy and sinful servant, to be a witness of your love especially to the marginalized and separated children of our Father. Dear Jesus, I’ll probably not write a gospel, but I’ll follow you in whatever way you call. Amen.
