1 John 4:11-18

Psalm 72

Mark 6:45-52

…perfect love drives out fear… 1 John 4:18

He got into the boat with them and the wind died down.  Mk. 6:51

Lord, it was evening when you saw the disciples being tossed about by the waves in the storm.  Yet you waited several hours later in the dark of the early morning to walk to them and calm the wind.  You let them struggle on their own against the waves through the night.  Why did you delay?   For some reason following the miracle of the loaves their hearts were hardened.  While they fought the storm you watched over them. You saw fear rising among them.  When you got into the boat with them the raging wind stopped and there was peace.  Lord, when I struggle against the storms of life you watch over me and protect me from harm.  You know what makes me afraid. I want you in my boat too. Each time I encounter you in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist you join me in the boat. Each time I receive the Anointing of the Sick you drive out fear.  Give me the courage to trust in your presence and your perfect love for me.  Reveal my hardened heart so I can be open to your love and peace while you allow me to struggle.  Amen.
