Psalm Daniel 3:52-56

John 8:31-42

“Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.”  John 8:34

Lord, the story of mankind is to live in freedom.  The struggle of the human race against tyranny and domination is continuous.  Your dialog with the Jews today demonstrates that we can be slaves to sin and really not know it.  We can be so bound up in evil patterns and destructive habits that we don’t realize that we are in slavery.  You came to shed light on this darkness.  You call us to break the habits of pride and selfishness.  You poured out your grace of merciful forgiveness from the cross.  Jesus, you came so we could be free of the thoughts, words and deeds that harm us and others.  I want to be free of what holds me captive, Lord.  Today I will expose one thing in my life to you that is blocking my friendship with you.   May I then turn away from this prison of the heart and choose freedom.  I need your help, Lord, to change.  Faithfulness is rewarded, sin enslaves.  I trust in your grace, Lord, to set me free.  Thank you for your abundant mercy.  Amen.
