Lord, the story of the Magi is amazing.  Three pagan astrologers see a remarkable new star and follow it all the way to your manger.   They were looking for the fulfillment of the Hebrew Scriptures so they could do the newborn king homage and offer valuable gifts.  The journey of hundreds of miles across wilderness and desert was not easy but they were committed to reach their goal.  What stirred in their hearts that drove them on?  It would be many years until St. Paul would announce the revelation from you that even Gentiles are invited into the body of Christ.  Their gifts were the best offerings they could make to honor you as a humble baby in the manger and future king.  In this season of giving gifts I want to offer you the gift you want the most: myself.  I sometimes offer you only part of what you desire.  I can be reluctant to let go of control of my life to you.  Help me to see what I am holding back from you.  Show me how I can surrender that part of me that I grip so tightly.    Amen
