July 29, 2023, Saturday of the 16th Week in Ordinary Time-A ST MARTHA, MARY, AND LAZARUS
Exodus 24:3-8
Psalm 50
Luke 10:38-42
“Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” Luke 10:42
Lord, in your time, hospitality to a visitor in the home was an extremely high priority. Nothing could demand the hosts’ attention more than making the visitor comfortable. Food was prepared, drink offered, feet were washed and offers of rest were extended. When you visited your friends Martha and Mary there was a clash between the sisters over their individual priorities. Both were doing good things. Mary was being a good disciple by listening to you. Martha was being a good disciple by serving your physical needs at the time Both, no doubt, were very pleasing to you. Lord, help me to choose wisely how I use my time to be attentive to your word. Guide me to set my priorities with you at the top. Do not let anxiety or worry over less important tasks be obstacles to my devotion to you. As important as serving your needs with love were, let me follow the example of Mary who devoted all her attention on you and what you wanted to give her. Never allow me to be too busy to listen to you. St. Martha, pray for me. Amen.
