Isaiah 40:25-31

Psalm 103

Matthew 11:28-30

They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength… Is. 40:31

“Come to me all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest.”  Mt. 11:28

Lord, every track and field coach will ensure his runners work hard to improve their speed and endurance.  They will also make sure they get enough rest between workouts to achieve greatness and avoid injury.  Without adequate rest they will not improve.  You saw people in your day who were working so hard to fulfill over 600 laws laid on them by their religious leaders.  They were burdened with so many concerns, worries and anxieties.  Today, as we move toward Christmas we too can be burdened with too much to do.  We can at times feel the pressure and the stress of trying to do too much in too little time.  Lord, I turn to you to let go of the stresses of the world and to embrace you as my source of strength.  I want to use this time in Advent to rest my head against your chest and let go of what burdens me.  Through prayer, meditation and reading your word in a quiet place I can receive the rest you offer.  Help me to know how much you desire that I come close to you and rely on your strength.  May this time of rest and renewal fortify me for the day you come.  Amen.
