The people stood by and watched… Luke 23:35

Lord, I’m standing on Calvary watching. I see three men being executed. I see your Mother and a few others weeping in obvious pain and grief at what they see. Others are looking on out of curiosity while the soldiers are mocking you. The religious leaders are there satisfied this false messiah will not be any more trouble for them. What a sad and horrible end for a man of great power and wisdom. The cross is a strange throne for a king. Yet it was your choice to give up everything out of love for your creatures. You could have saved yourself at any time in this ordeal, but you chose love, and you chose obedience and a cruel death over life. Lord, today I worship you as King of the universe and of my life. I thank you for choosing death so I might live. Your power is in your service, your strength in humility and your greatness is love. All hail the King of all and of me. I ask for the grace to be your disciple and not just “stand by and watch.” Please, Lord, remember me when my time comes to enter your kingdom.  Amen.
